MIJARC Europe | Rebooting the Food System | August 2026

From 3 to 6 August, Bremen was home to 25 young people from different European countries for the seminar 'Food. Future. Action.', our School of Influencers in Germany. The aim is easy to say and harder to do: understand how our food system works and where it fails, and learn how to talk about it in a way that makes other young people want to act.

Learning the content and the tools

The days mixed input and practice. Participants explored sustainable food systems, from production and fair prices to food waste and what ends up on our plates, and then worked on the skills needed to pass this knowledge on: communication, facilitation, storytelling and creating short content for social media. Many sessions ran in small groups, so everyone had the chance to try things out, get feedback and try again.

A big focus was on becoming multipliers. Each participant started planning what they will do back home, whether it is a workshop in their local group, a series of posts or a conversation with their municipality. The ideas were very different, and that is exactly the strength of a group coming from so many countries.

Bremen and beyond

We also took time to discover the city. The famous Town Musicians statue got its share of photos, and the evenings in the old town were a good place to continue the discussions in a more relaxed way.

On 6 August the group packed their bags and travelled together to Vrees, where they put their new skills into practice at the KLJB Bundestreffen. More about that in our next article.

Thank you to all participants and trainers, and to our German member organisation KLJB for helping to make this week possible.
